Renaissance Students Explore France: A Spring Break Journey Through History, Art, and Culture

Renaissance students traded classrooms for cobblestone streets this spring break as they embarked on an unforgettable journey across France—immersing themselves in history, art, culture, and adventure from Paris to the Mediterranean coast.

The trip began with an overnight flight to Paris, where students were greeted with a warm “bonjour” and quickly settled into their new surroundings. From the very first day, the energy of the City of Light set the tone for an incredible experience.

During their guided tour of Paris, students explored some of the world’s most iconic landmarks, including the towering Eiffel Tower, the historic Arc de Triomphe, and the bustling Champs-Élysées. They also visited the grand Les Invalides and admired the stunning architecture of the Paris Opera House. A highlight for many was their visit to the world-renowned Louvre Museum, where students saw masterpieces like the Mona Lisa and explored centuries of art and history. The day concluded with an unforgettable ascent up the Eiffel Tower, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Paris.

The adventure continued with a guided excursion to the magnificent Palace of Versailles. Students walked through the lavish State Apartments, stood in awe inside the Hall of Mirrors, and explored the expansive gardens. Through an interactive LEAP activity, they stepped into the roles of historical figures, gaining deeper insight into the causes of the French Revolution. That evening, students experienced the charm of Montmartre and visited the beautiful Sacré-Cœur Basilica, taking in one of the best views of the city.

Leaving Paris behind, the group boarded a high-speed train to Provence, arriving in the historic city of Avignon. There, they explored the impressive Palais des Papes and the famous Pont d’Avignon. In nearby Nîmes, students stepped back in time as they visited the remarkably preserved Arènes de Nîmes and the ancient Maison Carrée.

In the heart of Provence, Renaissance students explored the hilltop ruins of Les Baux-de-Provence and admired the engineering brilliance of the Pont du Gard. Through hands-on LEAP activities, they learned the art of fencing and calligraphy, bringing history to life in a truly interactive way.

The journey continued to the stunning French Riviera, with a stop in Aix-en-Provence before arriving in Nice. There, students explored the vibrant Old Town, strolled along the famous Promenade des Anglais, and experienced the beauty of the Mediterranean coastline. They also participated in a creative LEAP activity, learning about influential artists inspired by the landscapes of Provence.

One of the final highlights was an excursion to Saint-Paul-de-Vence, a picturesque medieval village known for its artistic heritage. Surrounded by stunning views and rich history, students reflected on their journey and the many memories they had created.

From historic landmarks and world-class art to hands-on cultural experiences and breathtaking scenery, the Renaissance spring break trip to France was truly unforgettable. Students returned home not only with souvenirs, but with a deeper appreciation for global history, culture, and the connections that bring people together across the world.
